A Majority of Marketers Will Be Using AI in Two Years
High-performing marketers are already integrating artificial intelligence to improve consumers’ experience of their campaigns — and the practice is only expected to become more widespread in the coming years.
As part of their fourth annual “State of Marketing” report, Salesforce confirms that AI is already transforming the world of digital marketing and predicts that use of the technology will come to define the status quo in marketing within just two years.
After surveying 3,500 marketers from Canada, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, the UK, and elsewhere around the world, Salesforce found rising customer expectations, particularly in regard to personalized customer experiences and platforms, are quickly driving adoption.
Internet of Things (IoT) technology and marketing automation platform are just two of many other innovations marketers are expected to utilize in the coming years. But survey respondents named AI as far and away the top priority, with marketing leaders ranking it nearly 20% higher than IoT technology in terms of which technology they planned to adopt first.
The AI Revolution
The growth of AI usage in marketing doesn’t stem from internal conversations or directives from higher-ups — it’s a direct response to heightened customer demands. According to the report, 68% of respondents said that their companies are focusing most of their competitive efforts on the customer experience front.
Whereas in the past removing humans from the marketing process might have seemed counterproductive to the goal of personalization, AI enthusiasts see it as an opportunity to create the perfect user experience. As Louis Columbus writes in Forbes, “The ability to deliver the right message, on the right channel, at the right time is most important to marketing leaders. Hyper-personalization of content and dynamic landing pages and websites are the second and third-most important areas [where] marketers most expect AI to make an impact.”
Companies that have begun to implement AI have already seen the technology pay dividends. 72% of marketers in the “high-performing marketing leaders” subcategory of the survey have already adopted AI while 51% of all marketers surveyed have reported that they are currently using AI. Of those marketers, 64% have said that AI has “greatly or substantially” impacted their overall marketing efficiency.
